Do personality traits have an impact on anxiety levels of athletes during the COVID-19 pandemic?

Introduction The sports world is one of the sectors most affected by SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) pandemic. Athletes from specific sport disciplines have experienced new situation in different ways. Therefore, understanding their individual experiences and psychological responses may help to design better intervention programs. Accordingly, this study investigated relationship between athletes’ personality traits anxiety light during COVID-19 Material methods impact questionnaire, Big Five Inventory-35, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory were administered 321 male 168 female athletes Turkey various disciplines. At time data collection, training competitions had been canceled all for two months. Results Most (70.7%) worried about being infected with if restart soon. regression analyses revealed that emotional stability, extroversion, age negative predictors state anxiety; conscientiousness trait agreeableness was a positive predictor anxiety. who perceived relationships family or close friends worsened home confinement (17.2%) significantly higher scores than those change (28%) no (54.8%). agreeableness, conscientiousness, stability also lower change.
